I can't believe we talked and talked for an hour and half for just only four people :o

Now I think I know what I have to do towards assessment...!
But I don't know whether I can complete my portfolio at the same time...:(

I finally watched the film,
The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus
today.

since I saw the trailer, I really wanted to see because the world looks so weird and I liked it!

Well, I after I watched it, the story and the atmosphere was quite darker than I thought.
I don't think this is going to be my top-favorite, but I liked the sets and strange world.
This reminded me Alice in wonder land.
Seems nonsense but it has its own completed world.



And I watched A perfect world,
and disney's Pocahontas.
The illustration of nature world was so beautiful. I like it :)

I have been drawing all day watching films and listening music...
Well, we had a great amount of rain today I think,
so that was clever to stay home. :P

But I end up reading Slam Dunk in the morning lol
This was the first time for me to read this story, and really like ittttt!
It's a masterpiece...

My dream that I mentioned in yesterday's post, flying birds (looks like crane, and having a huge wings) in red sky and big tree blowing by wind, I searched it today as my friend suggested me.

Because that dream gave me such a big impression...

and most of the things in my dream represents 'develop' or 'towards goal' or that sort of meaning.

reading dream is quite interesting... I wonder what's gonna happen...

I had a quite weird dream today...
The sky was red, and there was a big tree which leaves are blowing by strong wind, and people are looking at the sky to see massive birds...which has large black&white wings...
so weird...


Today I went to uni to have a talk with tutor again about my project,
And as always, I had found out that there are so many things to research again and
do some actual work!
I think I will draw pretty much tomorrow...

I went to the live of Vampire Weekend.

Last December, I took a ticket for this but at that time I never knew that this band is quite famous and popular.
I loved the live but sometimes I felt there are too much break? between each lyrics. (and they kept make us waiting for so long time!)So the entire concert didn't go so smooth and didn't have a speed I thought... but the lighting work was so beautiful and I could enjoy it :)



These days something going on southwest trains.
This is the second time that I have trouble to getting back home from London, and end up use the bus or taxi, because they dropped us at the halfway back home :(

As the research for my project, recently I searched the short animation songs on Youtube.
These series of 'Minna no uta' that I used to watch when I was a child, has lots of interesting short moving image.
I know Japan has expanded the area of Manga&Anime culture these days.
But I am not the big fan of this kind of culture... although I still enjoy reading some manga.
I just feel like the way they introducing this culture is sort of wrong...

Anyway this song just has been stuck in my mind!
I like this meaningless animation too!
Actually, the lyrics doesn't make any sense, but once you remember it, you will end up keep singing this phrase! lol







This is quite recent song, like 2006
The phrase rapping out in fast beat doesn't even sounds like Japanese!
And they just use patterned background and statue's illustration only.
I think it's just beautiful :)






This is quite old one, which is created in 60s,
And what amazed me is the person made this animation is Tadanori Yokoo!
The graphic designer who gave a massive influence in art industry in Japan.
It is black&white film, but it suits to the song very much.
It's so surprising that this animation made 22 years before I was born!

I have just realised that there are too many things to do,
and guess what! This weekend is gonna be the second weekend on February...
How loads of things that I have expected to do until this day...
and I feel like I haven't done anything ):-(

I need to do something on my project, towards next tuesday, which is the day for half-way-through crit,
I need to think about the work placements, until next thursday, which is the day I have personal tutorial for this.
I need to research about packaging and other stuff for the workshop I am going to have next week...

OOOOOkay.

Today I had a second cs session,'music and culture'.
Today's topic started from early 60s including Mod's & Rockers, skinheads, Hippies, and Punk...
I have a feeling that the tutor has quite certain things to say in his mind when he is talking about his favorite area or speciality, but when he comes to the topic he seems not so sure about, I couldn't really understand what he is talking about. Because he changes the direction during the speech, and repeating the same things in different ways sometimes.
But for my favorite area, mods culture, was fine :)

anyway these days I feel like I had done nothing, except my school work, so Now I am struggling to get any inspirations or involve in any events sounds exciting...

This is the book I made to scrap some pieces of graphic paper and other found object in Venice.








I made something for parts of accessary recently, using plastic plate.
This was really exciting! Hope I can develop my skill much further.

Snow again

I thought we passed winter already.
But today was freezing. Although I could see much sun and pretty good weather.
On the way back home from post office and art shop I saw some small snow was
falling down.

But the daylight is definitely getting longer day by day.
So that is much better to snow in sunny day rather than not seeing any light a day.

Exhibition 'decode' at V&A

I spend a day in London today, to see the exhibitions at V&A as part of the project of uni.
This exhibition was about the technology and new way of communicate using computer-based skill and some other modern culture's stuff.
It was great to see and play with those works, which I think I would never be able to create by myself.
I liked the one looks like a one framed screen. It looks like a mirror at a glance, but if you stand under the light placed in front of this screen, it starts to create the image of shadow they sense from this light.
So the blur black&white image of you will emerge on the screen, like a exposed photograph.

After this we went to cass art in Angel,
but the student big discount day was next day, damn it!

and went to meet-up, drunk pretty much, then went home.

but on the way back home, we were taking last train, then the train suddenly stopped and staff was shouting 'all change please, the engineering work! there's a bus to Epsom!'.
I really worn out by this incident.
THIS is why I hate to live far away from London! ):-(

I saw wallece and gromit's new? film 'a matter of loaf and death'
for the research of project,and I love it!
Ooh how cute Gromit is and how stupid Wallace is...
I really amazed by the detail of background and sets(such as stuff inside the house and the buildings and so on...)
Although the process of this animation seems really needs patience and time,
they also cared about the little movement and face and much tiny things, amazing.

I used to see and loved this animation since I was in Japan,
but they still keep making me impressed.

I saw this film, called '(500) days of summer'
which my friend recommended me to see.
That was cute, though the girl was a bitch lol

Sing&the time

I love musicals.
There's no other such a thing exist in the world :)
I love to listen music, with the moving image...
In musical films the characters are dancing and singing,
and making the rhythms and excitement inside the story.
I love it even though it is a bit weird to see they stop
talking normally and suddenly starts to dance and sing.

Anyway,
watched the film 'the princess and the frog' by walt disney.
Classical, musical film of disney, except the princess is
a black girl which is quite rare case.
But it gives the entire film a bit different taste, and I loved when
they used some kind of cut- out look graphic when they started to sing.

Well, I was surrounded by lots of children and their parents,
but the seat was full and I really enjoyed it.
As I said in the presentation on Friday,
Anything can be inspiration!
This film made me want to work on moving image...
what a simple person I am :-P


Today I woke up quite early than usual,
went to uni's and city's library,
had a little bit of research,
had lunch,
did some sketchbook,
and went to cinema.

Hmmm havn't done any physical art work................ ):-(

Oh it was quite busy day today.
I enjoyed the presentation,
and I could see what other people's interests&skills are, and what they are thinking about the future, including the thing they are doing personally outside the course right now.

It inspired me, and made me want to work harder and harder!
And I found that I MUST improve my English, well, I am always saying that though...
But I think as I went through the course the thought and interest of me are changing slowly...

I had a first contextual studies sessions of semester four tomoday.
I finally I could attend the class 'Music and Culture'.

Really enjoyed it, although sometimes the tutor confused me a bit.lol
I hope I can enjoy writing an essay this time...


Today we had a talk by designer unit 'tomato'
They are quite famous, and even though the taste of their works are not
perfectly matched my taste, I enjoyed listening their talk and watching their moving image work.

I never knew that they have designed for tv asahi's rebranding project.
And nouvelle vague's third album cover!

some works really inspired me.

Tomorrow would be a presentation day...

The new term started and new project has just kicked off yesterday.
Personal Design Project(PDP)

After I did group meeting yesterday
I really worried about my way of working on project

Since I came this country
I supposed to think out side the box, and having various ways of exploring my ideas as much as I can.
But still, I am afraid of trying new method and step in to the unknown area.

And maybe because I am Japanese and have been used to learn things as I told,
I prefer to be in the environment that has things I have to do, and solve.
Which means it is easier for me to work on 'prepared task'.
I like to play around with various materials, and make something out by hand,
and most of them in a 3D way... that is why I am fond of packaging design.
The product is already exist, and all I need to do is finding the best way to introduce,promote, and protect that stuff.


At first I really hate the first project I did in 2nd year:' Time' project
Because I knew the skills like how to draw, how to use tools or that kind of skill that I learned in Japan,
but 'Think' is difficult thing for me to get used to.
But as I went through the project I found out the main reason and purpose of that.
It took really long time, but I think it was good.

But I felt like I have done nothing compared to the quantity of work that I did in 1st year.
So that's why I feel so frustrated and 'time pass so quickly'.

Sometimes I feel myself as really serious person...:P


By the way the workshop I attend today was really nice,
which is about Creating a Portfolio.

Something reminded me that I haven't read any books that I took out from the library a week ago yet.
One of them is ''the illustrated book of Fairy Tales''.
Suddenly I just wanted to read and know other fairy tales.
Maybe I will draw something for it. someday.

I need to decide what I am going to do on next project!
And the first class day of next semester is tomorrow!
Haven't done anything!
Hahaha
Book? Music? Packaging?
well, I will see tomorrow...
